Eye Exam and Illnesses
A thorough eye exam can reveal many early
signs of illnesses. Many illnesses affect the eyes first. A
good optician will look for early warning signs of illnesses
while doing an eye exam. Below are some illnesses that a
complete and thorough eye exam can identify. Below are just
signs of illnesses that can be detected by eye exams. These
symptoms do not mean you have the illnesses or diseases.

Eye Exam &
Hypertension
Hypertension
is commonly known as high blood pressure. An
eye exam revealing the appearance of irregular
blood vessels on the retina can mean the person
is suffering from high blood
pressure.
Eye Exam &
Headache
Ocular
headache is common. Many vision problems such
as eye strain can make a headache worse or
start a headache.

Eye Exam & Diabetes
A eye exam can detect early signs of
diabetes. Small, circular areas of bleeding on the
retina may be an early sign of diabetes. Increased and
decreases in blood sugar level could cause blurred vision
and retinal changes.
Eye Exam & Cholesterol
Sometimes a good eye exam can show signs of
high cholesterol. Hypertension and Cholesterol often go hand in
hand. In another word, someone with high blood pressure often
has high cholesterol. When examining the eyes, look for the
condition of the veins and arteries.
Eye Exam & Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Early signs of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) can
be detected by an eye exam. When detecting Multiple Sclerosis,
look for double vision, visual field loss and uncoordinated or
involuntary eye movements.
