How do you Collect DNA?
Below is how to collect DNA of children.
Knowing how to collect DNA of your children is important since
DNA can help police find missing children. Below are ways to
obtain DNA samples from children.
Use Q-tip to collect DNA samples from
children
|
Q tips are
good for collecting DNA from children. Use a
Q-tip to swab inside the child's mouth around
the cheek area, not the teeth. Around the cheek
is where the cells are that are great for DNA
samples. You should take several DNA samples
and use a zip-lock bag to store each q-tip.
Label the bag with your child's name and date.
Please the zip lock bag in the freezer within 1
hour. This will keep the q-tip from growing
moldy. When there are mold on the q-tip the DNA
can still be used so don't throw it away if
that DNA sample is the only one you
have.

Collect old toothbrush for DNA samples
You can store your child's old toothbrush in
a sealed bag with a label of date and name on and put in the
freeze just like with q-tip DNA samples.
Collect baby teeth for DNA sample
Baby teeth offer good DNA samples. Save
your child's baby teeth in an old film canister with a label of
name and date and put in the freezer like other DNA
samples.
Collect hair for DNA sample
You can collect hair from your child's
brush as DNA sample. Label a plain envelope with your child's
name and date with the hair inside. You can use the same
envelope to collect many different hair samples over years. If
you are collecting hair for DNA sample, make sure the hair has
a root. You don't need to freeze the envelope but can. You can
also collect hair when you wash your child's hair. The root of
the hair contains DNA so make sure you have the root.
