Types of Benzodiazepines
There are two main types of benzodiazepines:
benzodiazepine hypnotics and nonbenzodiazepine hypnotics. There
are about 9 - 11 sub types of benzodiazepine
medications available. We will discuss different types of
benzodiazepines in another section of Health and Medicine
website.
Not all types of benzodiazepines are FDA
approved. In Asia, for example, more types of benzodiazepines
are found on the market. Below is also a list of some
benzodiazepines. Some benzodiazepines are used for insomnia
treatment while some benzodiazepines are used to treat
anxiety.
Structure of different types of
benzodiazepines
|
Chemically,
nonbenzodiazepines have different structure
from benzodiazepines so technically,
nonbenzodiazepines are not benzodiazepines.
However, nonbenzodiazepines' reaction on cells
is similar to that of benzodiazepines. So, in
effect, both types of benzodiazepines can do
the same job.
